Kandhmal riot toll exaggerated: govt

Archbishop’s List Includes RSS Cadre Killed By Naxals And Men Still Alive

Dhananjay Mahapatra TNN

New delhi: After having cited the Kandhmal riots as a reason for breaking away with BJP, the Naveen Patnaik government has strongly challenged a list of those killed in the violence filed before Supreme Court alleging that some “victims” are still alive and even RSS activists have been included. The BJD-led government on Friday said the list of dead filed by Cuttack archbishop Raphael Cheenath contained names of RSS cadre killed by Naxalites and some who are still alive. While Cheenath’s list included names of 93 persons killed in the riots that engulfed nine blocks in Kandhmal in the bloody aftermath of the murder of Swami Lakshmananand Saraswati last year, the state in its affidavit said the toll was not more than 42. Explaining the wide gap between its own and Cheenath’s toll figure, the state said: “The petitioner’s list included the names of RSS activists — Dhanurjaya Pradhani, Ajit Kumar Mallick and Prabhat Panigrahi — allegedly killed by Naxalites.” Further, 10 persons, declared dead on Cheenath’s list, were found alive, the state said, adding the archbishop’s list also included three persons killed in police firing as well as two policemen. It is ironical that the Orissa government is claiming the number of dead has been exaggerated as this is an allegation levelled by the saffron brigade as well. The Patnaik’s government’s initial response to the violence was that it was more an ethnic conflict than a purely religious one and was blamed for appearing reluctant to take action against the rioters. It was when BJD and BJP seat-sharing talks broke down amid considerable acrimony did Patnaik bring up the Kandhmal riots and claimed that “every bone” in his body was “secular”. Field inquiries from tehsildars and local police about missing names from the official list of those killed during the riots revealed that “in 10 cases, persons are still alive, in 25 cases persons have died because of chronic and other medical problems, in 12 cases reference/history of persons with reported names could not be traced in villages mentioned against their names, and in two cases villages mentioned could not be located,” the Patnaik government said. The state said the Kandhmal district collector has sought further information from the archbishop on these cases by letters dated April 22 and April 30. The response is awaited, it said. The archbishop’s counsel, senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, told a Bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices P Sathasivam and B S Chauhan that the petitioner would respond to the Orissa government’s affidavit but as an interim measure the court should direct urgent payment of compensation for damaged houses to the victims, which till date has not been fully paid. Appearing for the state, senior advocate K K Venugopal told the court that the government had done the maximum possible and paid compensation to all the families which had lost a member in the riots. He said the Centre has not provided its share of Rs 3 lakh to the victims. This was refuted by additional solicitor general Amarendra Saran, who said the Centre has till date received recommendation for payment of ex-gratia for 33 deaths and has cleared 30 cases for immediate payment. After the court directed expeditious payment of compensation, senior advocate Mukul Rohtagi alleged that the scheduled caste community ‘Panas’ in collusion with the Christians were grabbing the land of the scheduled tribes for construction of churches. The Bench issued notice to the state to respond to the allegations.

Now, what does the above mean altogether?

Did Jesus sanction you to tell lies, Dear priest? Or, have you guys started harvesting the souls of the dead also? Have you started issues death certificates to the alive too?? Who will probe the "holy" nexus between your establishment and the Naxals/Maoists who slaughtered Laxmanananda Saraswati? Or, was that too a divine ordain? Who would provide answers to these uneasy questions?

Yet another introduction to "Teesta Setalvad"

"Teesta Setalvad", well, the quotes are not misplaced. Let me remove the lid on that mystery at the end. Citizens for Justice and Peace is an "NGO" that the woman who likes to be called with the name above, runs along with her husband. The lady has leftist leanings, which shapes her thinking and the "love" for anything Hindu.
  1. Felicitated by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for her work done on the Best Bakery case: There cannot be a bigger joke than this, considering the infamous Zaheera Sheikh flip flops and finally the allegation levelled by Zaheera on Teesta of tutoring her with statements. "Teesta"s tutoring crown was once again feathered by the SIT set up by the SC when they revealed their findings on the "rape and maiming of a pregnant woman". Needless to say about the commies; They will felicitate anybody who abuses a Hindu! BTW., can there be a bigger joke than the communists themselves. Am sure the Russians and the Chinese still have a hearty laugh looking at these "pitiable wannabe comrades"!!!
  2. "unanticipated, unjustified and unfortunate": These were the only words that were available in "Teesta"'s dictionary in response to what the extra-constitutional communist cadre to the villagers of Nandigram.
  3. "Teesta"s publication, Communalism Combat, requested and received funds from the Congress Party, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India and ten individuals to run advertisements in national dailies attacking the Sangh Parivar, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, before the 1999 Lok Sabha elections. I do not think that any further elaboration is needed on this point :)

Bhanu Pratap Mehta, President of the Center for Policy Research in New Delhi and the former member of National Knowledge Commission has criticized "Teesta Setalvad" for allegedly cooking up of Gujarat riot cases and called it "an Unconscionable Act". Writing to a mainstream daily, he said that if the charges against here were true then she had done the cause of justice irreparable harm. He observed that her actions, as described, will undermine the capability of civil society to have any imprimatur of impartiality in investigating riot cases.
Mehta, who was earlier a professor of social studies at the Harvard University, added that she has not only done deep disservice to the victims of the Gujarat riots; she has also undermined the credibility of so-called secular interlocutors. He opined that it confirmed the suspicion many have, that often those speaking in the name of secularism do not subscribe to the very values they claim to be fighting for: truth, justice, impartiality and the rule of law. "Their secularism is in the service of beating down opponents rather than discovering the truth".[Sources: Bhanu Pratap Mehta, An Unconscionable Act, Apr 15, 2009, Indian Express, Wikipedia]

The final nail: What probably makes "Teesta" a Hindu hater and a hit among the ilk is the fact that she is a convert to Islam which explains the quotes wrapping around the Hindu name that she still uses to fool people!

Putting Teesta Setalvad in her 'rightful' place

Let me begin my outburst on the propaganda war waged on Hindus and their representatives. What better than the tight slap that has been unleashed on the face of the self styled activist by the Special Investigation Team formed by the SC to investigate into the post-Godhra riots of 2002.
The link to this news is: http://www.breakingnewsonline.net/2009/04/sit-censures-teesta-setalvad-and-ngos.html. After the flip flops around Zaheera Sheikh that caused huge public embarrassment to this mercenary in the garb of NGO, this has come has the biggest vindication to Narendra Modi. This report pulls up Teesta and her ilk for rumour mongering by fabricating stories of killing and violence including the killing of a pregnant woman and her foetus being removed and so on, which never took place
I'am appalled by two things. One, the very rubbish that this woman has circulated; beyond that what has shocked me immensely is the attitude of our media! I hit a google search with keywords around "Teesta Setalvad" and "Supreme court". The search results are abysmally few. The icing on the cake is the attitude our wonderful NDTVs, CNNs and Times among others. They await a chance to rip Narendra Modi apart if he even lets loose of a funny noise due to turbulence in his stomach, but, found this bit unworthy of a news story to be published to the masses!!! What do these news channels air! Only anti-Hindu stuff ??
Hindus are racing towards becoming refugees in a country where they gave refuge to the Parsis and Jews! Welcome to Kaliyug, where blatant lies and fabricated stories of vulgar proportions are patronised by the "educated" and the "secular class".
I shall dedicate an exclusive post to Teesta Setalvad and what makes her a "Secularist"!
